The meeting, which took place in Santiago on 30 June 2016 ahead of the Pacific Alliance Presidential Summit, bought together public authorities from Pacific Alliance countries, including Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, senior representatives from the global private sector, and academic thought leaders from around the world to discuss the carbon pricing and green growth in the region.
Attendees examined the implications of a green growth strategy in the region, and discussed the benefits of public–private partnerships and regional collaboration to catalyse this at scale. A series of technical workshops, organised by the Program for Market Readiness project in Chile, explored in more depth the potential of carbon pricing to be a key mechanisms for delivering low carbon development in the region.
Nicolette Bartlett from the (CISL), Corporate Leaders Group member Acciona’s Chilean Director José Ignacio Escobar, and Director of the Corporate Leaders Network's CLG-Chile Dieter Linneberg were amongst the speakers at the event. During his closing remarks, Marcelo Mena, Chile’s Undersecretary of Environment, thanked CISL for its support on this agenda so far. CISL has facilitated a series of events since COP20 in Lima in 2014 to help support the development of a green growth-focused platform in Latin America.
