Business leadership for a climate neutral economy

15 March 2022 - Following a successful tenure as co-Chairs of the UK Corporate Leaders Group (CLG UK), Peter Simpson, CEO of Anglian Water, and Colin Matthews, Non-Executive Chairman of EDF in the UK, have been reappointed for a further two years.

Originally nominated in January 2020, Peter and Colin have been an integral part of the strategic development of CLG UK over the past two years and have helped represent the interests of the group’s business leaders. Their leadership has assisted CLG UK in delivering a huge range of outputs and activities, including a number of high-profile communications to government and multiple high-level webinars and roundtables. Their appointment for the second time in a row is confirmation of their outstanding work and CLG UK looks forward to another two years of productive collaboration.

Colin Matthews, Non-Executive Chairman, EDF in the UK, and co-Chair of CLG UK, said:

“2022 is a critical year to turn ambition into action against climate change, capitalising on the ground-breaking progress of COP26. Innovation and investment by British businesses is central to net zero and to a more prosperous and inclusive future.

“I am delighted to have been reappointed co-chair of the UK Corporate Leaders Group, as we strive towards good policy and great delivery of the net zero transition.”

Peter Simpson, CEO, Anglian Water, and co-Chair of CLG UK, said:

“The business community has a vital role to play in delivering a just transition to a net zero society.

“CLG UK’s members represent a broad coalition of leaders from water to energy, food and drink, and transport, showing the way towards a more sustainable future through transformative climate action and positive engagement with policymakers.

“Building on the momentum of COP26 – a pivotal moment for governments, businesses and citizens around the world – we will continue to demonstrate climate leadership from the UK business community and provide a constructive voice to government.

“Having been involved with CLG UK since 2005, when it was established under the leadership of CISL’s Royal Founding Patron, HRH The Prince of Wales, I’m proud to be able to continue to play my part in its development as Co-Chair, helping to shape the future of this important organisation which does so much to foster positive outcomes.”

Eliot Whittington, Director, Corporate Leaders Groups, said:

“The UK Corporate Leaders Group welcomes the re-election of Peter and Colin as co-Chairs. Their insights and contributions over the past two years have been invaluable in furthering CLG UK’s work and they have been an integral part of a number of significant achievements.

"We look forward to continuing our work together as we strive towards a climate neutral, nature positive and socially inclusive economy.”
