30 January 2025 - CLG UK reacts to the UK's NDC ICTU submission, setting out how it will deliver on its 2035 carbon emissions reduction target.
Today, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) submitted further detail behind the UK's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) headline target to the UNFCCC, ahead of the 10 February 2025 deadline set by the Paris Agreement on climate change. To aid interpretation of the NDC emissions reduction target, Parties to the Paris Agreement must provide information to facilitate clarity, transparency and understanding (ICTU).
Bev Cornaby, Director of the UK Corporate Leaders Group, said:
"We welcome the UK government’s submission to the UNFCCC as part of its commitment to the globally important Paris Agreement on climate change setting out how it will deliver on its recently announced 2035 NDC carbon emissions reduction target. The government's submission reinforces the UK’s commitment to ambitious climate action.
We are particularly pleased to see, for the first time, explicit recognition of the critical role that businesses play in delivering emissions reductions and driving the transition to a net-zero economy. The inclusion of business action reflects the reality that achieving the UK’s climate goals requires strong collaboration between government and the private sector. We look forward to continuing to work with policymakers to turn ambition into implementation."
