26 April 2024 - Google has officially joined Corporate Leaders Group (CLG) Europe as an affiliate member. This partnership will be dedicated to advancing sustainable policies while fostering a competitive and resilient economic model, together with the frontrunner of the technology industry.

CLG Europe welcomes Google and eagerly anticipates collaborating to secure a greener and more sustainable future.

Ursula Woodburn, Director of CISL Europe and CLG Europe, said:

"It is with great pleasure that we welcome Google to Corporate Leaders Group Europe. Google's commitment to joining our coalition of forward-thinking companies underscores the momentum among global leaders to prioritise ambitious climate action and sustainability. As one of the world's foremost technology and innovation companies, Google's involvement reinforces the vital role that all sectors play in driving positive change. We are looking forward to working with them to support the shift to climate neutral and nature positive economies for all in Europe and beyond."

Google has demonstrated its commitment to the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)'s principles by endorsing our recent letter, coordinated by CLG Europe, urging the European Union to adopt ambitious climate targets, aiming for ‘at least a 90%’ reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

Adam Elman, Sustainability lead at Google, said:

"We’re excited to join Corporate Leaders Group Europe to support policies that will help Europe become the first climate neutral continent. At Google, we have a unique opportunity to use our deep legacy in research and breakthroughs we’re making in AI to help lead the transition to a more sustainable future by making information accessible and by driving innovation forward. We look forward to working with the members of the Corporate Leaders Group Europe to work towards building a sustainable, equitable and resilient carbon-free future for Europe and the world.”

Google has made a significant effort to foster sustainability in its operations so far, pioneering innovative digital solutions to advance the journey toward a net-zero European economy. Notable among these is the Environmental Insights Explorer, a groundbreaking tool providing data for over 40,000 cities worldwide, including 7,000 in Europe. This tool facilitates the development and execution of emission measurement and reduction strategies.

With Google's inclusion, the CLG Europe family now comprises 20 members, including leading companies such as ACCIONA, AVEVA, Ball Corporation, Cemex, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, DSM-firmenich, EDF, GSK, Ingka IKEA, Iberdrola Renewables, Microsoft, ROCKWOOL Group, Salesforce, SSAB, Signify, Unilever, VELUX, and Workday.
