Business leadership for a climate neutral economy

For immediate release: 6 October 2014

Over 50 leading companies urge Europe to keep up ambition on climate

A group of 57 leading companies and business organisations representing more than 4.5 million employees worldwide, today urged EU leaders to agree a robust 2030 energy and climate policy framework and energy security strategy that is fully in line with Europe’s long- term climate objectives and that can help deliver a global climate change agreement.

The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group is pleased to have been able to help secure support for the statement from businesses from a wide variety of sectors. The statement is being released during the informal Energy Council and in advance of the 23-24 October European Council and stresses that a timely decision by Heads of State and Government is critical.

Sandrine Dixson-Decleve, Director of The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group said: “Decisions taken in the climate and energy policy space have an enormous impact on sustainable investments. Our members are increasingly concerned about the potential cost and risk associated with delayed action. Lack of clear policy will have a negative impact on supply chains, resource availability, and society as a whole.”

The signatories of the statement, who each acknowledge responsibility for a sustainable economic future for Europe, want to see a robust and ambitious 2030 energy and climate policy, alongside an energy security strategy that will enable Europe to meet its long-term climate objectives.
