December 2017 – The EU GGP secretariat’s work on long-term planning began ahead of COP22 in Marrakech where it released a policy briefing title ‘Future Proofing: Sustainable plans for prosperous economies’.
The briefing provided an overview of the complementary relationship that can exist between government and business when it comes to long-term climate policy.
The Secretariat continued this work in 2017 with a survey of business opinions on long-term planning and climate policy, as well as some roundtable dialogues with businesses, policymakers, and politicians. This work sought to investigate private sector perspectives on long-term planning and climate governance, and discuss this with policy makers in the context of national and international climate action and ambition. It held three roundtable discussions as part of this work, including a final session with ministerial engagement during COP23.
