Why do 2050 plans matter?

  • National climate plans with a horizon of 2050 are essential to delivering the long-term vision of the Paris Agreement. They are a necessary complement to the shorter term Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and will give business and subnational governments a clear framework to plan future investments.
  • As governments start elaborating their 2050 climate strategies, with Germany leading the way and other announcements expected at COP22, business and subnational leaders will present their own perspective on long-term plans and explain how they can contribute to their development and implementation.
