April 2021 - Coordinated by the We Mean Business Coalition and Ceres, and supported by the Corporate Leaders Groups, a new business and investor letter supports a 2030 climate target for the US of cutting GHG emissions by at least 50 per cent compared to the 2005 levels.

310 businesses and investors, including Corporate Leaders Groups memberAcciona, Ball CorporationEDF, Iberdrola, Interface, Microsoft, ROCKWOOL, Salesforce, UnileverRoyal DSM and Signifyhave called on US President Joe Biden to deliver a strong 2030 climate target. The message was delivered through an open letter partially inspired by the European letter coordinated by CLG Europe last September.

The US letter states that “[…] the U.S. must adopt an emissions reduction target that will place the country on a credible pathway to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. We, therefore, call on you to adopt the ambitious and attainable target of cutting GHG emissions by at least 50% below 2005 levels by 2030.”

The Corporate Leaders Groups are supporters of the letter as We Mean Business Coalition Partners.

The CLGs has been involved in transatlantic initiatives as Eliot Whittington, Director of the Corporate Leaders Groups, joined 153 leaders from across the world in signing a letter urging US President Joe Biden to be the President “who will lead humanity off the cliff-edge” of the climate crisis and who will take bold climate action to build back better. That letter also appeared in the New York Times on 24 January, 2021.
