Context and background

This high-level event focused on the publication of a new report by CLG Europe, ‘Accelerating the transition to a climate neutral and circular economy: How the EU can deliver through the Sustainable Products Initiative’.  The event explored how the Sustainable Products Initiative can play a part in the Circular Economy Action Plan, its importance in the wider climate debate, and how the Initiative can help the EU to accelerate the transition to a climate neutral and circular economy. The event provided a unique opportunity for CLG Europe to bring together its network of European businesses and policymakers for a dialogue about what key stakeholders would like to see from the Initiative.

The recently launched Taskforce on Climate Neutral and Sustainable Materials and Products (Materials & Products Taskforce) aims to positively influence policy discussions by bringing together a group of progressive businesses across sectors and value chains. This policy briefing is the Taskforce’s first publication and seeks to establish it as a vehicle for positive and progressive advocacy in this EU policy debate. The event featured representatives from the Taskforce member’s businesses, European policymakers and third-party representatives.

The Materials & Products Taskforce is convened by CLG Europe, an influential and cross-sectoral group of European businesses collaborating to accelerate economy-wide action for a climate neutral economy. Our aim is to provide a forum to promote positive exchange between progressive European governments and businesses, determined to support the development of a climate neutral and prosperous Europe. In the wake of strong calls at COP26 on the need for cross-sectoral collaboration on sustainability within supply chains, CLG Europe was proud to bring together business and political leaders in this event.
