Corporate Leaders Groups

Business leadership for a climate neutral economy

The high-profile event is set to take place on Thursday, 7th December, from 12:30 to 14:30 CET at the European Parliament. The invitation-only gathering will explore the role of the Nature Restoration Law in addressing today’s climate and nature crisis, as well as providing tangible examples of how nature and biodiversity projects can support the creation of high quality jobs and the emergence of new economic opportunities.

Context and background

Concept:

Leading businesses are increasingly aware that nature restoration will play a key role in strengthening the EU’s resilience, and contribute to the economy by bringing socio-economic benefits such as sustainable jobs, recreation opportunities, and broader health benefits. They believe that the EU Nature Restoration Law provides an important opportunity to fill a core gap on nature in the European Green Deal and align the EU’s nature ambitions with its climate objectives. This Law would also give clear policy direction to Europe’s economic actors on the EU’s commitment to a coherent, ambitious, robust Green Deal that increases the resilience of the economy. They have already expressed clearly their positions at an event organised in May at the European Parliament and an open letter signed by CEOs and executives from more than 80 companies. Moreover, CLG Europe produced a business briefing with important case studies on the social and economic benefits from companies active in different sectors.

Against this backdrop and ahead of decisive moments for this key piece of legislation in the ENVI Committee and in the European Parliament plenary, CLG Europe is organising an event to discuss the role of the Nature Restoration Law in addressing today’s climate and nature crisis, as well as providing tangible examples of how nature and biodiversity projects can support the creation of high quality jobs and the emergence of new economic opportunities.

This event will take place between the vote in committee and the vote in plenary to keep the conversation going; it will be invitation-only, hosted by the chair of the Environment Committee of European Parliament, MEP Pascal Canfin. It will be open to maximum 25 people to allow a good exchange of ideas.

Other invitees include Members of the European institutions, and high-level progressive business representatives.

What is CLG Europe?

The group works closely with policymakers – particularly the Green Growth Group of EU climate and environment ministers, and supportive Members of the European Parliament through its Green Growth Partnership. CLG Europe also maintains a network of sister groups across the EU and works in partnership with some of the largest business-focused organisations in support of climate action as one of the founders of the We Mean Business coalition, for which it provides the EU policy lead.
