Business leadership for a climate neutral economy

Watch our virtual event: ‘Accelerating the transition towards climate neutrality through business and political action – A CEE region perspective’ On behalf of CLG Europe in association with Change for the Better. Thursday, 16 June 14.00-16.00 CEST (Online).

Context and background

The event came at a crucial period when the EU and its Member States have been developing policies and measures to reduce energy dependency from Russia, through the RePowerEU plan, and achieve climate objectives, including with the Fit for 55 Package, with key discussions due to take place during the upcoming Czech Presidency of the European Council. These policies will have an impact on the CEE region’s ability to accelerate its energy and climate transition to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. At the same time, businesses are increasingly recognising the region’s potential, in terms of large-scale renovation, deployment of renewable energy and clean mobility as well as the economic benefits of increased climate action more broadly.

In this context, the event brought together policymakers, business leaders and civil society representatives who exchanged views on the energy and climate transition in the CEE region.

Some of the questions discussed included: How can private sector initiatives in the region contribute to make this transition a success?  What policy measures, including within the Fit for 55 Package and RePowerEU Plan, should be put in place for the transition and scale up best business practices? How can the CEE region tap into the economic benefits of the transition? How can social challenges be addressed?

The event was chaired by Martin Porter, Senior Strategic Advisor, CLG Europe & Executive Chair, CISL Brussels. Speakers include:

  • Michal Veselý, Chairman of the Board at Change for the Better Association, CMO at JIC Innovation Agency
