Policy briefing: Circular Savings - Business perspectives on energy savings through circular practices

10 May 2023 - Europe is undergoing a deep transformation towards a greener, cleaner economy. There is a systemic shift that is needed. Currently, this is happening too slowly, and greater acceleration is needed if we are to meet our climate objectives. Energy policies can tackle 55% of global emissions, but the circular economy can further tackle the remaining 45% of emissions derived from material production. The Materials & Products Taskforce has released its new policy briefing, building on business insights, on how circular economy practises could enable energy savings.

CDP data shows European businesses are already implementing key elements of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive

19 January 2023 - The European Commission published its proposal for a Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence (CSDDD) in February 2022. This critical piece of legislation aims to provide a regulatory framework on corporate sustainability governance. According to CDP’s latest data, more than a third of companies in Europe (37%) report that they have a climate transition plan in place and only 2% of those companies report on all relevant transition plan indicators. CDP defined 8 key elements that constitute a credible climate transition plan . These elements can be identified via disclosure on 24 indicators found in the CDP climate questionnaire.
