Business leadership for a climate neutral economy
 

Gumru joined the Brussels office of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainable Leadership (CISL) as a Project Coordinator in January 2024. She currently works closely with Green Growth Partnership, We Mean Business Coalition and national business networks to support the development of a climate neutral and prosperous EU.

Biography

Before joining CISL, she started her career in 2018 in development sector as a Monitoring and Evaluation Expert and Project Coordinator at GIZ Azerbaijan and moved to one of the conflict regions of Azerbaijan and coordinated three teams in the field. Her work involved supporting Internally Displaced People to start their businesses or their career. Following this experience, she moved to Bulgaria as an international fellow focusing on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights and women’s rights in 2019. Returning back to Azerbaijan, Gumru started two initiatives in Azerbaijan; “Easy Law” and “Open Platform” as a Co-Founder and Project Manager and provided free legal assistance to people coming from vulnerable backgrounds on social, labour and women’s rights from 2020 till 2023. During this time, she received her Master of Science degree from Ghent University in the major of Conflict and Development as the top student with magna cum laude (800/1000). Following this, she continued her career in human rights sector in Belgium by joining European Network of Equality Bodies as Membership and Network Development trainee. Gumru has worked in various field covering human rights issues as a Project Coordinator and Communication Officer since 2016, currently she pursues her goals to support climate action in CISL Europe.

Gumru speaks 5 languages; Azerbaijani (native), Turkish (fluent), English (fluent), Russian (intermediate) and Dutch (intermediate). In her free times, she enjoys learning figure skating.
